Sins of the Father

Somber is the saddest soul
Tattered like an old flag
Downtrodden with what I’m afflicted

I reach for you
And the searing pain of a love that splattered like hot oil
Burns away the doorway to our eternity or down you kicked it

The path you took by forsaking me
Seemed wondrous as the night sky
Shattered by bad choices

Disjointed jagged little diamonds
Fallen prey to your mar
The future echoes our children’s voices

It was this post on Ste J’s blog that led me to write this poem. I had no idea that the image he painted in my mind would become exactly this poem. Thank you for sparking my imagination, Ste.

He spoke of a time that escaped my grasp
A smokey-toned voice with a slight rasp
He was persuasive in a passive way
I was inebriated from lust and Chardonnay
Then, through my mind’s flight, I walked the path to his home
Methodically he plotted through my roam
I felt him caress my skin as I was near
The pounding of my heart was for love, not fear
The scent of fresh flowers was in the air
I fashioned a wreath to wear in my hair
His voice brought me to the dark wooden door
Embellished with what appeared to be the famous Fleur
Centuries old and probably had passed
Since the arrival of the visitor last
Cobwebs abound as I opened the crypt
I found my amour through the time that had slipped
When he kissed my lips, it was pleasure and pain
Just a puppet in his world, forever I’ll remain

Poetic Genesis

The sharp white flaws of a blank page
Give thoughts and emotions a life
Shame and emptiness birth rage
Fig leafs shroud a man and wife
So much ado about naught
What little fruit to bear
Better a page be taught
Of Eden’s serpent beware
Cover up with the soils of the day
Lest hidden truths stampede
An honest poet turns away
Unless the soul is freed
The giver of life conquered pain
Daily, the burdens were carried
Tears like heavy rain
Unveil the liar she married
Loud is the big empty hall
How stark the truth can be
Dawn follows each nightfall
Fear not the uncertainty

Indulgent Insolence

The heavy air of pain’s prison bestowed upon me
The world is so loud today
Clapping at my failure to break free
Chasing smiles that never stay
Egregious abuse of trust pools near the street’s curbs
All in a quick barrage during spring’s waking
I’m not one to plant seeds of herbs
To make life more palatable for the taking
Cursed the one who set my heart to broken
The wine of my blood can wash me anew
Denying not the words that were spoken
With spiteful aridity, to myself I am true
